By candlelight
I sit in the
still night air
the only motion is
the candle's
steady flicker
heavy thoughts
weigh like boulders
on my weary shoulders
my heart nearing broken
words left unspoken
longing for affection
fear of bearing rejection
bare introspection
and then
stupid me
leaned on my own idea
even though I was
told two words
that I clearly heard
my lonely stirred
my impatience
like a senseless fool
dipped my toe in the pool
just to see
turned out to be
a piranha breeding farm
devoid of manners or charm
a pit of pride and lust
didn't trick my trust
Discernment over-rules
vulgarity of drools
my toe ravaged to the bone
makes me guess I'll stay alone
treated like an object
led me to conscientiously object
my poor heart's trauma
from raunchy carnal drama
from a distance
they seem pretty harmless
but looks are deceiving
when it comes to piranhas.
