Unconditional
For the things you can’t say out loud challenge

Is my love unconditional,
Because I expect nothing from you
Or because I expect nothing of you?
I used to hold you in my arms
Now we’re just pleasantries on a screen
When I type “I love you”
It feels like an echo
Of when I truly felt it
Sure, the love is still there
A pea under the mattress
A playlist song always skipped
Never deleted
Nostalgic beats of guilt
Echoing across the chasm
The bridge, frayed and loose,
Sways in the wind between us
High over a shrinking river
Of good memories
It hasn’t burned yet
But we’re both holding matches

"We're both holding matches." Great ending!
Excellent poem… sounds dire.🥺
You always stick the landing 🤯
The imagery here is sad...and effectively conveys love about to be lost. I particularly liked "Nostalgic beats of guilt.." They way same-old same-old sometimes happens to couples.
Is my love unconditional, Because I expect nothing from you Or because I expect nothing of you? I love this part so much! Very well done
This is fantastic, Shaun! From the absolutely cutting exposition on "unconditional" to the incredible echo images and then final line!
This is so so true, it's there but it's also not there. Beautiful piece, nice work 👍👍❤️
This burns hot. Hurts. Well wrought, Shaun! Such a great entry!
