Two parents,
their parenting ways are,
very different, poles apart.
There is the father
who drives in his electric car
swipe his debit card
and buy store-bought dessert
scrumptious apple strudels,
that has artificial color caramel
studded with sugar beads,
and metabisulfite.
And there is the mother,
who takes the kids
for daily nature walks
picks fallen sycamore leaves
puts on the earth
plucks ripe prickly pears
from the chaparral slopes,
opens them carefully,
scoops with her fingers,
turning them magenta,
and feeds them lovingly.

One is into consumption,
shopping for every morsel they eat,
just like modern society,
the other is into foraging,
trying to live a bit like the ancestors.
The kids see two ways of life.
It’s up to them, to choose
which one they want.
Secretly I hope, they blend both,
living consciously, frugally,
being kind to the earth.

Good job for this poem shows us the two can be one and understand each other in their different ways.
