Two Flowers, One Soul

Love's Bounty

By Cindy CalderPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

I caught sight of you and could look no further,

My eyes remained riveted to your image.

In silence, I watched as you moved about,

And the stillness of night could not envisage

The overwhelming elation my heart felt,

Overflowing from the point of my vantage.

Who are you? From where did you come? My mind cried,

As if waiting a response from your sweet lips.

But instead, you moved through the room

Unaware of me tho’ my heart nearly burst in love’s grip.

Are you a god derived from the image of Aphrodite?

I silently wondered, my gaze upon you steadfastly fixed.

Beneath my lashes, I watched you without pause

And understood how songs of love are thus created.

Amidst the revelry of sweet love’s triumphant call,

Within the whirlwind of an overwhelming state,

I felt a desire beyond the scope of understanding

And knew I was on the threshold of imminent fate.

For endless moments in time, I watched you thus

And knew joy, love, and hope in one complete thought.

Can it be true that I’ve found you at last?

It suddenly became clear you embodied all that I sought,

Suffused in love’s eternal light and by fate’s hand.

It was an unexpected gift from where I knew naught.

Come to me, come to me, my heart silently pleaded

Unaware of others and the flutter of noise all about.

I willed you to see me despite the throng of the crowd

Until my mind could focus upon no other route.

Alas, you heard not my soul beckon to yours

And fear steadfastly filled me with impending doubt.

But then, of a sudden, you glanced up at me,

A split second in time, a jewel sparkling amidst

The thunderous roar of the crowd and all else.

Our eyes met and held, and I knew naught but sheer bliss.

Beyond doubt, you were my destiny and endless desire,

Wrapped in love’s guise, a fate no mortal could miss.

From the deepening of blue in your eyes

I saw that you felt our connection so true

Like two flowers bending toward the other in delight,

I watched as you moved toward me, and I knew

A bounty of unfurled hope and joy in my chest.

This was our fate, our undeniable reckoning anew.

As you approached, the scope of your smile grew,

Your blue eyes deepening in their perusal of me.

Hello, my heart’s desire and love’s wondrous fate.

Here was pure perfection, neither would disagree.

We stood thus, nonmoving, transfixed by the other,

Flooded with emotion in an ever flowing joyous sea.

That night long ago, sealed our destiny complete

With an endless supply of love’s reward and allure.

And forever with you, each day of my life

I’m completed, fulfilled, and sated in joy undyingly pure.

You are my life, my love, my fate and all I desire

To know in this life, of this I am undoubtedly sure.

Though we grow old and unable to move or to speak

Our hearts shall forever recognize the other when we meet.

For fate long ago decreed the path we chose and took

Toward love’s bounty, so full and endlessly complete.

For this and nothing other, I shall die with a smile on my lips

And a song of love's fulfillment within my breast so sweet.
