I am one,
And so are you
As one and one make two
So it is with me and you
I’m odd but whole, as you can see
Unique in my identity
And every count divides by me
But then remains the same
So it was until you came
Together we make two
Even, in our roles,
Our goals, our views,
Our souls,
In how we choose
The things we do
With confidence in our prime
As complements we rhyme
By adding to each other
We multiply our joy together
The modern world will say
That even sums can split apart
And follow their heart
And go their separate ways
And still be equal and whole
And so they go
But I say no
From the beginning it was not so
The answer I feel is not subtraction
Commitment is real, not abstraction
A difference can heal to satisfaction
Two can find they’re whole
If they turn their faith into action
With rational minds and souls
Love is greater than attraction
The perfect vision
Is not division
We weren’t meant to be a fraction
So we’ll go back
When we began
And make our way
Through countless days
Hand in hand
And heart in heart
Living and forgiving from the start
As puzzle pieces patch together
We’ll find our match in each other
Stitched into a quilt of dreams
From broken parts, unbroken seams
With you in me, and me in you
Undivided, united too
Into the sun
Two but one
