Twisted Fate

The fate of a cursed love

The tears formed in the corner of his eyes

As he stared off into the distance

Unfiltered images swirled in his mind

Haunting highlights flickered in black and white

Unwanted visions of fire and destruction

Walking away, he turned around for one last glance

Hiding the pain of his cursed fate

Forced to let love slip through the cracks of time

Until he could break the darkness invading his soul

Sweet and innocent, her golden locks blew in the wind

Sun-kissed skin, rosy cheeks, a laugh as melodious as the flute and harp

She danced through the streets, turning heads

Her eyes found true love's embrace

But fate was a cruel task master

Sending her love off to battle before they wed

A thousand lonely nights she waited, longing for his return

In the shadows, he watched her sleep

Trapped between desire and despair

Fading from her room

He fled the village a cursed and broken man

Vengeance was his right

To destroy those who weaved the curse round his heart

Upon his horse, he raced

Through torrential rains and the scorching sun

Months passed, his search in vain

Anger carried him through each day

Stealing his humanity

Waiting by the shore for his return

Pressed her hand to her empty womb

Would she never know true love's touch?

She dreamed of far-off days

When he stood by her side

Whispering sweet-nothings

Until the battle call

Stole him away

As his promises faded with each sunset

Darkness surrounded him

As he entered the witches' lair

Fading in the shadows

His sword rang out

Echoed down the halls

His battle fought in the narrow halls

Until they spilled out into the potions room

Glass vials shattered, screams of the damned

As he struck the parting blow, the curse unraveled, taking on a life of its own

His heart turned as black as the unlit sky

He turned his eyes toward his village and his love

Vowing to take what belongs to him

Never to walk alone

Regardless of the consequences

Marching down the silent streets

He entered her room and watched her sleep

Leaning forward, he kissed her sweet lips

Damning her forever to his fate

A very well-crafted poem with very strong messages. It also reminds me a bit of mythology.

  • Wow, that was intense! I wonder how willing she was to be part of his fate!
