I entered the class
Sat down at my chair
I glanced around the room
When I saw her there
She smiled a blush
And gave her hair a brush
Sun gleamed from her eyes
As sound slumber to a hush
Time became relative
Like a sloth on a tree
Slow in motion
Yet, flowing, knowing and free
A slight nimbus gown surrounded her body
Like the Renaissance paintings of Mary and her baby
No one could save me
Not even a dream
There’s more to angels than mystery
Invisible strings held our attention
Cherubs fluttered around
To watch their suspension
Of time, destiny, and pure affection
I returned her smile
Without knowing I would
Could this be the one?
She could be looking at anyone
Maybe not me
But then I wouldn’t feel her rays of love
Feel the rush in my blood
Thump in my heart
Cupid’s arrow hit me
Like a lion with a dart
The professor is beginning
But all I can ponder is her
What is she thinking
Did true love just occur?
I noodle on my paper
Stick drawings
And various lines
Not all poetry
Has to end in rhyme
Love is easy
When two puzzles connect
The hard part is believing
That eternal souls have met
Finally, the hour is done
Please say she didn’t leave with someone
Should I walk, or should I run?
I go quickly, dodging students
Like the winning car in Formula 1
There she is
Alone luckily
I know what to do
When an angel is before me
I speak casually to her
With the joy of a child’s first steps
But I don’t remember
The ardent things I may have said
I became numb
As I requested her number
Our first date
We talked from fall to summer
I am a believer in chance and fate
Experiencing the meaning of Nature’s ways
Many years ago, but I still remember that day
A token of love
In that noble word
An ode to beauty
My universe heard
And I married
This same girl
Love at first sight?
Yeah, I’m sure
