Trees in Concrete
The Goodbye I Won't Say To Your Face

I saw green in a land of grey,
I felt soil beneath the asphalt.
I felt freedom, but now I’m locked away.
Stars above the lights,
Hidden by the neon.
Were we just wasting nights?
I saw all the good in you,
And ignored your red flags.
I supported every little thing you do.
I won’t do it anymore, I’m not a toy.
You can’t face my sadness,
You only ever have patience for my joy.
I’m more than fun and games,
I am a depthless sea, full of horrors.
You couldn’t even be bothered to learn all my many names.
I never got to have a say,
It’s always on your terms isn’t it?
So I pack away my feelings, for yet another day.
And now I’m rotting from the inside,
And you can’t be bothered at all.
You only pause to ensure my hands are still tied.
Honesty. Respect. Communication.
Too much of a burden for you to manage.
So consider this my unapologetic capitulation.
