rotten sunfish washed up on the shore

you'd think it bothersome, but i've been here once before

i'll take an omen over a promise any day

at least there's no disappointment that way,

and at least the rotting flesh can take to the soil

fertilize the land and leave room for growth

because lessons can only be learned after a moment

and sometimes things stink before they ferment

and transform into something new.
