Trail

A Nonet

By Gabriel HuizengaPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

I used to believe that you left me

on this shadowy, unmapped path;

but truth treks alongside me,

shows how my wayward heart

left you to wander

long ere your soles

followed a

second

trail.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Thank you so much for reading this nonet! This piece is part of a duo, each one reflecting a sort of opposite side/perspective on a relationship breaking up. I am including the link to the sister-piece here. I hope you enjoy! This prompt is certainly heavy, but I think has drawn out a lot of beautiful honesty and insight in this creative community. Cheers, friends. :)

    Getting a taste of one's own medicine is a closer. It is great to feel justified in the end. Great poem.

    This is honestly beautiful. I love self-reflection of the narrator. Well done..

    And that's the cause of so many breakups.......neglect leads to the inevitable. Agree, perfect companion pieces. And I like the metaphor here.

    Excellent on its own but what a pair! Reflective but distinct too in its tone
