A Nonet

By Gabriel HuizengaPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

I used to believe that I left you,

peering through mists of pain and time;

yet truth, this morning, rises:

I was never enough.

denial's haze fades;

how could I stay,

when you weren't

even

there?

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Thank you so much for reading this nonet! This piece is part of a duo, each one reflecting a sort of opposite side/perspective on a relationship breaking up. I am including the link to the sister-piece here. I hope you enjoy! This prompt is certainly heavy, but I think has drawn out a lot of beautiful honesty and insight in this creative community. Cheers, friends. :)

    True, sometimes even though someone is beside you, they are not really there in spirit. So many can relate to this.

    You are right Gabriel. Reading both perspectives gives each one greater depth. Individually they each communicate a sense of loss. But reading them together magnifies sense of loss. I could feel the ache in both readings. Great work! Pity there isn't a way to submit them together!

    These are so good! Perfect companion pieces that complement each other so powerfully! The last four lines of this one were so profound

    Yes! Excellently done and a distorted reflection of the other. Loved them.
