Tragedy

Tragedy can occur to anyone, anywhere and at anytime. Tragedy can almost never be foretold, in most cases it just strikes and leaves people in grief and sorrow. With tragedy, it doesn’t matter who you are or what your situation is, whether you’re rich or poor, tall or short, old or young, it is bound to strike at one or more points in life, almost like karma. This is similar to the case of the 15 year old girl who was brutally murdered in broad daylight. It’s difficult to imagine, that someone my age, whose life was probably almost similar to mine, took her last breath during her daily morning commute to school, and she didn’t even see it coming.It’s times like this that make one wish time machines exist to go back in time and prevent tragedy.

Imagine being her parents, being greeted with a call to tell you that your daughter is not coming home tonight just moments after you said “See you later, I love you,” Imagine being her friends, who had to witness what happened, who had to see her blood gushing out of her wounds and watch her life slowly fade from her eyes. Imagine being the first responders who had to look for hope where it wasn’t, who had to attempt to give life back to the lifeless body and make an announcement that would change the lives of a number of people. This made me realise that you don’t need to know someone to be impacted by their death, and it’s even harder for the people who have to witness this almost everyday of their life and appreciation for them is much deserved. I, as mentioned before, know nothing about her, have never met her, I didn't even know who she was until she passed away, yet here I am, writing this. Even influential people have been impacted by the tragic turn of events, We have Idris Elba who made a public post offering his condolences to the family, and we have Stormzy who took the time out of his day to join the mourners at the scene of the incident.

Now another child with an extremely bright future is going to be buried by her parents, her family and her friends, an innocent girl who had dreams, a girl who was well on her path to achieving those dreams. A void is going to be left in the hearts of her loved ones, a void that can never be filled. The reason?...Some boy couldn’t take no for an answer. How tragic.
