Toy

Love or Convenience?

By Sahasra ReddyPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

Out of all the toys you adored,

Was I one of your favourites?

Begging, pleading, with guilty eyes,

Would you ever choose me as yours?

Lies thick as mist,

And the truth easily seen beyond the surface.

Yet I still yearned for a moment of mercy.

Would you ever choose me,

If I paid heed to your pleas?

Suffered your wrath for one word of affirmation?

Stayed by your side even with the sharpest of words said?

A doll with broken seams,

Held together with last hopes.

Each promise, each fury,

All seemed to tip over the surface.

Would you ever choose me,

If I stopped waiting?

If I walked away from you?

Would you ever choose me if I chose you?

Or was I only a toy?

Among many to be loved,

And only used when convenient.
