top story is a scam
There's nothing for you when you receive a title.
Having been to the top, I'm coming down to let you know that there is no crown.
There is no crowd to motivate you to keep going.
Your audience is you,
End of story.
✌️
When you get to the top tier, you think you made it.
When you've only just begun to be
Someone who can say I put in the time.
I look at myself now and where I am
I could never have imagined I would be writing every day.
I'm a fucking writer.
If nothing I say gets the top story again
Well, that would be okay.
the world is so much more than this website, and these people
Who I do respect and admire.
✌️
Writing is about your craft and how you'd give anything to never give it up in the name of others.
I was blind, I used to think, if my story didn't take
It wasn't good.
The truth of the matter is I don't care what anyone thinks; I write for me.
I'm sure you can all see,
That I'm a fucking writer, I don't need the accolades.
The pages are enough
When you've been to the top,
You realize there is room for everyone.

I like this! It’s raw and rubs true. There’s a big world out there and we need to be reminded to take the blinders off.
This... top story is like chasing the dragon. It's the hopes of getting high on a new high. Wanting to receive a little gold star and some recognition, when we need to recognize the work that we put in ourselves. I don't feel ashamed in typing that "I believe that some of my best stories will never make top story." Literally, some of my stories that have made top story I've pulled out of thin air.
I love this Jazzy, I relate so heavily to this!! The only benefit to a TS is the $5 they pay you, not even the exposure for it is great because you just get a bunch of people who only read that one story and niching else! I'd much rather have 5 reads from people who I like/ care about than 500 from total strangers! This poem had great insights and some serious validation for me! Great work Jazzy!
Exactly what I needed to hear today! I think that one person finding beauty in your story is so much more valuable than many simply 'liking' it.
Such powerful words! I've been feeling this so much lately. 🥹❤️ Getting Top Story is fun, for sure, but ultimately, loving to write should be what fuels us, not the accolades! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this. So relatable and motivating!
This is very relatable. Writing can feel competitive at times, at least for me, but when you begin to write for yourself the narrative changes. You are no longer trying to impress other people with your words xxx
I definitely feel this. After receiving top story for the first time. I definitely hit the ground with a bump! I've written 3 other piece's since. That have barely been read and I feel like I'm chasing the high of a top story now. This describes that feeling perfectly, thank you ❤️
Amen to this! God job jazzy
Yep, Jazzy. If we write for fame and fortune we miss the point. Writing is a long game. Few make a living at it. But all who write get fulfilled in one way or another. All my life people have urged me to write. Now that I am I've found places I never knew existed inside of me. The long game is leaving behind a phrase or two that people need.
I try to remember to just write for myself. And if it ends up at the top great. If it doesn't, also great. What really matters is did I enjoy creating it and re-reading it? Loved this piece by you
You went hard in this. Well done, Jazzy and it's too true. It can be too easy getting wrapped up in the "will I get one...will I get another" Trust me, I do. lol. So, this was highly relatable. Like others have said, including Keila, we need to write because we want to and write what we want, regardless of Top Stories and such.
Accolades are nice, but receiving a Top Story or not, does not define one as a writer. It's important to write as we like, regardless. Writing is then the reward. 😊
I have just written about it yesterday Yes You are ! with the Top and without I love Your freedom of expression I also meant We sometimes write about things that are hurting for us and I personally think such stories should be not placed as a Top because they dont describe us but our experience and we dont need reminders about them but digest them throw them out thru the writing and go on ! but that's just how i feel about it I am not the one who decide about it ! and I am also sharing a lot of what brings me pain in here so its often difficult to be able to know how others will react to it ! sure its qool to experience it but not depend on it as Your writing comes naturally from You and Your life experience not from what is done with it by others ! much Love to You !
I wholeheartedly agree with this! Wonderfully put!
Totally get this
This was awesomeeee! I always tell people not to feel sad if they didn't get a Top Story because it ain't a tool to measure how good a person's writing is!
Love the tude, dude...I mean, Mrs. Jazzy. Love the way you preach, love how open and honest you are. Keep it going girl!!! 🔥
This is fun and so true & relatable Jazzy! The love and enjoyment of piecing your words together is the thing and if people happen to like these then great! I appreciate you writing this. Like the others below, this will probably get a top story lol 😆. Did you receive my comment back to you in the vocal creators chat? I was getting existential-top-story-anxiety! So if this gets a top story, I will be sure to pity you! 😆 Also congrats on your leadboard bonus!! 🎉👏
Very true, but despite the irony, I'm convinced this will be a top story haha
All too true...and I predict it will be a Top... Oh, sorry. ;)
Hehehe I love this 🤍
I think staying original to you is best. I find the authenticity of some writers to not be so genuine. After much experience, I can recognize those who put forth the effort and those that are just taking out the trash. Nice read. I love it! Everything is subjective! So many awesome stories go undiscovered each day! Each day that we show up and fight off discouragement, we win! Awesome job Jazzy!🎉
Beautifully said, I think individuals who have a rough upbringing feel like they have to go far beyond what is expected in order to achieve the same results. It's unfortunate, because as someone who knows this to be true, at times seeing the success in the lives around me I sometimes question if my turn will come around. Trauma sucks, and while I am scarred, I know life goes on and while I can't change what happened, I can control how I respond. Thank you for this reminder Jazzy!
Yes! That's what I keep telling people. Not winning challenges or getting TS doesn't mean your work is bad or subpar. As long as you have fun and enjoy yourself, the rest doesn't matter. Success is however you define it. What others think is secondary to your goals.
