Too Many Lovers
a poem inspired by relationships

In the depths of night, where shadows creep,
A tale of love, twisted and steeped,
Two souls entwined, in a web of deceit,
Their hearts entangled, in a love incomplete.
They danced in darkness, their secret affair,
A forbidden passion, beyond compare,
But their love was tainted, by others’ embrace,
A lifetime of lovers, a never-ending chase.
He held her close, with a lover’s touch,
But his heart was divided, it yearned for too much,
For he had known many, in the depths of his lust,
A carousel of lovers, a love he couldn’t trust.
She whispered sweet nothings, in his ear,
But her words were hollow, filled with fear,
For she had tasted love, in many different ways,
A carousel of lovers, lost in a loveless haze.
Their hearts were weary, their souls were worn,
From a lifetime of lovers, their love was torn,
They sought solace in each other’s arms,
But the weight of their past, brought only harm.
In the dead of night, they made their escape,
From the chains of their lovers, they sought to reshape,
But the ghosts of their past, haunted their dreams,
Their love was a tragedy, bursting at the seams.
They yearned for a love, pure and true,
But their hearts were tainted, by the lovers they knew,
Their souls were scarred, by the sins they had done,
A lifetime of lovers, their hearts had outrun.
In the end, they were left, with nothing but pain,
Their love was a mirage, a love in vain,
For they had known too many lovers, too many lies,
Their sad love affair, a lifetime of goodbyes.
