Too many hopes, too many tears

I lived in a mist not reality

Too many hopes, too many tears

I built castles in the air,

with your name carved on every stone.

I carried dreams like lanterns into the dark,

their glow small, their glow fragile.

I filled my hands with promises not yet spoken,

but every promise slipped away like water.

My eyes are rivers,

they know the taste of salt.

They flow with the weight of every hope broken.

Still I cannot stop hoping,

still I gather pieces of you like scattered light.

Perhaps tomorrow will bring what today has denied,

Perhaps my arms will not close on emptiness.

But how many tears must fall before hope learns to rest,

how many nights must I wait before love keeps its vow.

I walk a path paved with wishes,

each one falling behind me like autumn leaves.

I reach for the sky,

yet it bends away from me.

I pray for the sound of your voice,

but silence answers.

Hope is both my comfort and my wound,

it feeds me, it bleeds me.

Tears stain my face,

but I still turn to the future.

For even with too many hopes,

and too many tears,

I cannot let go of love.

Well said. All the heartbreak love has caused, yet we still yearn for it

Good job on a poem that could have been hard to write in places.
