Chasing Fools Gold
I wanted true love, but chased fools gold.
Held it close, like treasure to my chest.
It glittered bright, but the shine was cold.
A promise empty, that gave no rest.
I thought the glow would make me whole.
I followed lies, dressed up as light.
It pulled me far from my own soul,
And left me broken, through the night.
I reached for warmth, but touched the stone.
The silence louder, than any sound.
The path I walked, was mine alone.
No gentle hand, was ever found.
Yet still I dream of love so true,
That waits beyond the false and old.
I learn from all I stumbled through.
No longer chasing fools gold.
The heart can heal, though scarred and worn.
It beats again, with steady grace.
From bitter ash, new hope is born.
And I still seek a tender place.
So if love comes, I will not fear.
Its light will shine, not bought or sold.
A steady flame will keep me near,
Not the glitter of fools gold.

True love is hard to find and once you find it, please don't let it go. What a great poem on finding love to grow.
Sounds like my life on dating sites - chasing fool's gold. 😉😉 When you write do the words come naturally to you or do you have to sit and think about them? They always seem to flow so naturally except for a couple that I perceive you have wrestled with them a bit. This one flowed naturally it would seem to me.
