TOO DEEP FOR ME

7-5-2025

I am pretentious

As you can see

Because if I am not

then I am not me

And I am only a reflection

of failings of direction..and..

self-doubt

self-critique

will ruin my complexion.

Thus I write for you

To twist your world..

..your mind imbue..

With questions?

Like..

What may be the meaning here?

This wording being quite so queer

That I fail as a poetic seer..

And I am left behind I fear!

But...

I get it!

I understand.

If the poem is too easy

Makes the mind a bit uneasy

If the poem is naught but bland.

Good morning, my friend. Thank you for your kind words. I wrote this in response to some poems I've read elsewhere that required me to literally sit down with a dictionary to translate the words to understand or try to understand the poem and I thought to myself, "Is it necessary to use such huge words to be relevant?" For me it has always been to elicit a reader's emotion, not their admiration, whether in the message of the poem or just the beautiful flow as if riding a river and it's calm or tempestuousness. I'm glad you liked it. Thank you.

  • This sure was deep. Hope you're doing okay. Loved your poem!
