tomorrow

(never)

By Sara Published about a year ago 1 min read
Top Story - August 2024

if tomorrow starts without me

will you grope your sheets

in your sleep drunk haze

to find me.

will you gather my panties

strewn hastily

on your bedroom floor

and ball them in your fists.

will you fill the kettle

with too much water

and drink your coffee

lukewarm

because it takes too long to boil.

if tomorrow starts without me

will it take a million years

for the sun to set

or will the daylight spill

like honey in your eyes

while i stay forever in the darkness

because my day never starts without you.

if tomorrow starts without me

it starts without you, too.

Congratulations on the top story! This beautifully written poem evokes scenes from a film that could have been broken down into stanzas! Well done!

Ohh this is brilliant! And I am somehow only seeing it after I just published my top three. In a way I’m glad - because I would have had to rethink the list… but I’m also sorry I missed it ! I am glad to see it’s a top story though!!! Well deserved ❤️

So stunning. The pain in the missing of physical connection, the despair in the daily mundane, and the great vastness of overwhelming questions are all sewn together in this capturing piece. I loved all of it.

Very nice. I also drink my coffee lukewarm. Just swallow it down in a gulp because it's not worth the effort. I was wondering where the line about the panties would go. Nicely done!
