Toll

A poem of sorts

It takes its toll

Thinking back on memories of you

All covered in dust and dirt

Sprinkled with shame and remorse

I know it hit you hard too.

Some days

I wish I didn't have to keep the memories

I wish they would dissolve

Into the acid of nothingness

In my mind.

Because thinking of you

It takes its toll

If I could just lock away any thoughts of you

Into the backdoor of my mind

Sealed tightly

Forever to remain shut

Why not?

You took away all the good pieces of me when you left

I fight every day to build them back even better

But some days

You really take your toll.
