Today, instead I honor the father of my children

I found someone so unlike you.

Maybe I should thank you, for knowing what not to choose.

To deserve better. Knowing who to stand up against. Who to stand up with.

He too, has a daughter.

I watch him raise her the way you never did.

Without shame, without belittling, without consequences.

With unconditional love, with understanding, with compassion.

And now he has a son,

He will teach him everything right.

Of respect, of gratitude, of partnership.

The cycle of you will end

A new one to begin with us.

Today, instead

I will think of him.
