TODAY, Let Me Be!

Just ME....

By KomalPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Today

let me be

Both womb

and tomb.

*

Today

let me rest my oars,

not move at all,

Sit in my canoe,

watch life move

around me,

and be quietly respectful.

*

Today

let me just BE,

live,

survive the day,

not make waves,

not be in the light,

not be a light.

Today I will roll myself up into a ball,

deflecting any assault on my senses,

*

let me hunker down,

not do anything,

not attract any attention to myself,

not say aye or nay,

just go through the motions.

*

Today I need to curl up,

foetus-like,

ride out the day,

be a tiny pebble

embedded in the sand

on a shore,

that the waves may caress

or leave untouched,

a quiet witness

to the ebb and flow of time,

content to feel the pull of the tide

and the silence of the sea's embrace.

    This is expressed at grassroots-level feeling and the such a needed poem. It's the natural response to a world demanding unnatural presence of us most of the time, and that poem/this poem...is our soul fighting to preserve itself. Magnificent. 🩵

    This poem beautifully captures the need for stillness and introspection, with vivid imagery of surrender and connection to nature. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of simply being.

    Komal, this is a beautiful poem that speaks of a person's need for solitary being- we all need that 'alone' time. Being "a quiet witness to the ebb and flow of time" expresses this poignantly.

    “That the waves may caress or leave untouched” wow! What a powerful poem. I read it as communicating a sense of apathy towards self, the kind you can only really access when exhaustion wears away all the energy you’d need to care. Definitely relatable at times. Beautiful writing Komal.
