To My Departed Son

He had too much against him.

I remember our walks.

By the fireplace we would talk.

You told me you felt alone

And wanted to run away from home.

A girl saw light within you.

Her love for you was true

Until her old beau stole her away

On a cold and dreary day.

I wanted to see you shine.

Then I got out of line.

I could not see your point of view.

Then I said hurtful things to you.

In your mind I put doubts.

The flame from the fire flickered out.

After you lost your true love,

You decided to go to heaven above.
