you laugh and lead and glow,
letting personality shine through, thinking
no one is quite like you.
but others think this way too.
My dear, you’re ordinary.
.
in those moments when you are at your best, someone else is better.
it’s just the way it is.
that thing you’re so, SO good at?
many others do it too.
it’s not just you.
My dear, you’re ordinary.
.
and when you love,
that depth of feeling,
that inexplicable riot of everything?
they have felt it too.
your love is not something new.
My dear, you’re ordinary.
.
and when you lose,
when you’re grieving,
when you hurt more than you ever thought you could, more than anyone else has understood?
so many have felt it more than you know or ever took the time to see.
My dear, you’re ordinary.
.
everyone has their talents,
their strengths and their weaknesses.
you have these too.
Like them, my dear,
you’re ordinary.
.
everyone has their bad days,
their screwups,
their mixups,
those people they’ve hurt.
i know you could name a few.
Like them, my dear,
you’re ordinary.
.
everyone’s life goes through ups and downs,
highs and lows,
triumphs and failures.
you’ve had your share, with more to come.
Like them, my dear,
you’re ordinary.
.
just as complex,
with as many flaws,
just as lovable
with as many sparkling wonders,
as the next person.
Like them, my dear,
you’re ordinary.
.
The planet does not revolve around you; billions will never even know you.
But a close few do.
To them, you’re extraordinary.
In this way, you’re ordinary.
.
Your mistakes won’t shake the axis-
Most will never know.
Some will, but you’ll learn to let it go.
In this way, you’re ordinary.
.
Dear,
You feel so much, want so much,
Fear so much, dream so much.
Others do this too.
And so, like them, you’re ordinary.
.
But I love you. Even if you’re ordinary.
To me, you’re extraordinary.
And I’m so glad you’re ordinary.

Great & thoughtful writing Abigail!! 😊
Awesome!!! Love it!!!❤️❤️💕
I LOVED EVERY WORD OF THIS. What a piece.
In a world where people will resort to toxic behaviour to stand out, it is good to be ordinary. A well put thought on why it is ok to just be you ❤️
I really like this. I think we all feel ordinary, but someone thinks we're extra. Hopefully it's us. Well done.
Well, your poem is everything but ordinary! I think we are just our worst critics, so we often think that we are not worth much. It's in the ordinary that the extraordinary can flourish.
This is so touching, vulnerable, and relatable! Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤️ Amazing job!
We are our own worst critics, it is great to see the good in ourselves. Excellent words
This was so relatable! I've felt that people are extraordinary so many times though they're ordinary!
I find this poem both comforting and unsettling, just as good poetry ought to do. It's something I would not have welcomed hearing from my mother, yet I would want to read this to my children. Well done.
