Her sun-kissed warmth and chestnut hues dripping with honey
That is what comes to the mind
Of a young lady who once believed
Her skin to be everything that she hated.
●
Back in the dark times when she loathed the variant shades of
Her body's largest organ,
It meant she did not know who she was
Nor the unique beauty that rose from her skin.
●
The time it took to appreciate what was given
Was one of discovery,
Diving into her divine shadows
In order to become the woman she is.
●
Now her eyes are wide open to the glory of her
Glowing melanin and the
Fact that she is different because
The coffee tones of her skin are hers alone.
