Tis the Season

Tis’ the season

They do say.

With a smile

Full of teeth and crinkles.

Assuming all is merry and bright.

However for far too many

This is not the case.

For too many.

It two weeks,

Of darkness

Loss

And sorrow.

Their lives

Are not full

Of light and love

It’s a struggle

To say that blade,

Not take that step too far.

Or something else

To take the pain away forever.

So before we belt out

A round of We wish you a merry Christmas

Or Auld Lang sine,

A little too loud.

Under the influence of liquid cheer.

Let us think of those

Who dwell in the darkness

On the fringe.

Reach out and include them

Into the light.

As sometimes

That maybe all it takes

For them to see in the new year.

About the Creator

Owen Nicholls

I have worked in the IT industry for over 30 years. Poetry grabbed my attention at an early age when I was going to elocution lessons and my teacher found that reading out poetry was perhaps the best method.
