Hope in Humanity

Not as gloomy as it appears

By Owen NichollsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I have hope in humanity.

To believe in the best

We all have within ourselves.

My hope diminishes.

As I open the door and see,

Chaos raging outside.

I see the worst that we can be.

Too many blinded by the truth

Only they can see.

It is their mission to have everyone

Convert to their view.

Which comes in many forms.

Political, Religious, Dietary,

Freedom of rights, Conservation.

I could go on and on

With the things people contest

Each other over.

I sigh, depressed at what I have seen.

My hope in mankind gutters and ebbs.

As I go to close the door on the chaos outside.

I see a teenager stop and help.

An elderly person gather up their spilt groceries.

Asking if they are OK?

Then go on their way.

My hope is still dim but it hasn’t failed.

As my hope has had an injection of faith.

From a single act of random kindness.

I believe there is still hope in brighter future.
