Tiny Graves

Not literal graves

Scattered upon the cracked and frozen ground

Fallen leaves

Each one a tiny memory

Each one a remnant of a dream

Dreamed long ago

Or so the ticking of the clock makes it seem

Different people

Distinct lives

Passed from moment to moment

Past and future seen as one

A dreadful opponent

Walking through the frozen graveyard

Past the lonely reminders

Of dreams dreamed long ago

Side by each

The boy and the man

Ambitions left behind

Died from neglect

Buried under the frigid snows of time

Clawlike hands protrude

Spectral reminders of what could be

Shaking in the dreadful chime

Of the clock that marks the passing

The loss of another chance

Buried

Lost

Forgotten

Died

Buried without knowing so long ago

Each one a tiny memory

Fallen leaves

Scattered upon the cracked and frozen ground

Is each one a shadow of the poet moving on from the choices of life and looking back?
