Glancing out my back window

I spied two tiny intruders in my backyard

The smallest of small dogs imaginable

Not puppies, mind you

*

They took to this new territory as if they owned it

Not aware of their stature in the whole canine scheme of things

They moved as if on a ferocious hunt

And when they saw the old stuffed animal that had been left out

They made haste in their attack

The first tiny dog took hold of the worn teddy bear's throat

Then he took off dragging it along

When he finally released the teddy bear, his comrade then took over

No doubt making sure that teddy was done

Then they each took an end and proceeded to rip teddy apart

*

I would have intervened

but it seemed like they were having too much fun

And besides,

I had told the kids not to leave their toys in the yard.
