time didn't slow for us

it’s that time of

year where the professors make us

introduce ourselves to our

classmates so i turn to face you

and my god i could swear that i was

dying the way i

lost my breath and words with it

all at once

but time did not

stop

no conversation

fell for us

the clock’s hands didn’t

pause even a minute

for us and there you are asking me what my

favorite color

is and i finally find the words

to say that i don’t actually have

one but then i glance into your

eyes and find that i’m saying

brown

before i even realize there are

words coming out of me and i

don’t dare take it back

because i didn’t know

brown

could look so much like

peace and kindness and i would

suffer a million introduction lectures

to greet this feeling of death with

arms open wide if it meant that i got to

tell you that everything about you is my

favorite color.
