Not Who I Used To Be

I imagine the darkness caressing my face

While the clock holds its hands - keeping time

I am lost in a world of magical dreams

Surrounded with lyrical rhyme

Whispers in the air - of things I’ve never seen

Footsteps creep for me, down the hall

I dream of places I have never been

As I sit face to face with the wall

Someone is coming, the voice says to me

You can’t run, you can’t fight, you can’t hide

It's coming soon, so be prepared to see

It’s in you - hidden deep down inside

As I struggle to befriend - this internal beast

I have unknowingly nurtured along

I find myself humming, gritting my teeth

Trying not to give in to his song

But the melody is melancholy

A Reminder of who I once was

Before I gave in to frivolous folly

Needing approval and others applause

Now I sit here - uncertain about who I am

Not quite me, and yet not someone else

Wondering if I can reclaim me again

And recapture that part of myself

This is very well done. I can feel the confusion & draw when you're moving from one space to the next.
