A poem about the love of a grandparent

This man I remember through the years

Who always was there to wipe my tears

This man took a role one did not care to play

And made me feel loved every day

I watched that man go from strong to weak

Held his hand while the tears rolled down my cheek

Once a strong sailor and factory man who we called Buzz

Now slowly becoming a shell of who he once was

I know we all have a grandparent that we admire to the end

But you don’t understand he was my pop, dad and best friend.

He stepped up when the father went to disappear

Always saying to me you are better off my little dear

I never understood those words as a child

But now as a grown woman who misses that old man , I look back and smile

Smile at the time we had together through those years

Now he’s not here to wipe these tears

Having that kind of love after pain is so rare.

So on the day of his passing, this I wanted to share.
