A rose blooms no matter what
is happening in our world
hot or cold weather
rainy or dry season
whether we are smiling
whether we are crying
when we're happy
we smile when we see a
beautiful flower
when we're sad
the rose still blooms
it doesn't wilt just because
our heart's been broken
our tears don't cause
the petals to fall off
our hearts are like a rose
its beauty is unbounding
as is its hardiness
thorns are a rose's God-given
natural defense
to keep it safe
but thornless roses have been created
in greenhouses
where beauty takes priority over
scent or sensibility
taking away their God-given
defense mechanism
because they have no dangers
and they still grow and bloom
words can become greenhouses
our hearts' God-given
defense mechanisms
can be eliminated by
adroitly constructed
charm and attraction
chameleon affection
shaping the branches
that are now thornless
manipulating the rootstock
sweetly
imperceptibly
until the rose becomes
a vinca.
