The bright moon hangs
in the cloud-speckled sky
dimming the light of the stars
and the chilly air hangs low
the trees are still, not a leaf moving
the.only sound is the fire crackling
and a coyote howling in the distance
the roaring fire is mesmerizing
the flames furiously dancing
and reaching ever upwards
the "if only"s
looking like
melted marshmallows
struggling to stay composed
and as she watches
the fire burn
she looks away
so the hot tears don't put
the flames out before
it burns down
to ashes.
