In shadows where the heart entwines,
Lies love that stings, with thorny vines.
A dance of whispers, fierce and wild,
Where tenderness turns sharp and riled.
We cling to shadows, toxic ties,
In the web of love’s disguised lies.
Why do we crave the venom’s sting,
When solitude could peace bring?
In the embrace of toxic rain,
We find a strange, addictive pain.
A love that’s brittle, bound by chains,
Yet in its grasp, we still remain.
Like rivers tainted with deceit,
That poison fields, where shadows meet,
We bear the weight of poisoned streams,
In toxic love, we drown our dreams.
The siren’s call, the lure of night,
In toxic arms, we lose the fight.
A need, a hunger, deep inside,
To feel the touch of love’s dark tide.
Why do we bear the bitter taste,
When freedom lies in our embrace?
In toxic love, we find our chains,
And yet, our hearts still seek the flames.
For love’s a mirror, cruel and kind,
Reflecting fears we hide behind.
In its reflection, we seek grace,
A longing for a warm embrace.
But toxic love, a perilous game,
Leaves scars that whisper silent blame.
Why do we cling to shadow’s plight,
When light could guide us through the night?
In every heart, the quest for love,
A yearning from the stars above.
Yet in the shadows, we must see,
The truth that sets our spirits free.
So shed the chains of toxic ties,
And rise to meet the clear blue skies.
For love that’s pure, and hearts unbound,
In truth, our solace will be found.

This is a powerfully evocative and insightful exploration of toxic love. The imagery is striking and visceral, with the "thorny vines," "toxic rain," and "poisoned streams" creating a palpable sense of pain and entrapment. The poem masterfully captures the paradoxical nature of these relationships, where the "venom's sting" and "bitter taste" are somehow addictive, drawing us back despite the harm.
One must be careful in the world of love and begin to understand why certain things happen that changes things. Good job.
Great poem! Toxic love is a hard topic!
Such a raw and powerful poem, John. You’ve beautifully captured the struggle between toxic love and the yearning for freedom. You have a strong grip at poems too 😊🤝
