She deserves my 100% commitment,
My strength, my respect, my understanding and most importantly — my heart,
Constant reassurance and a shoulder to lean on,
And a love and friendship that plays the part.
******
On her good days, the days where she succeeds on her own,
I give her an extra special thank you,
A smile and my gratitude,
While celebrating her blessings through and through.
******
I watch as she rises time and time again,
Adoring the fortitude she’ll always muster,
No nonsense; just get it done attitude,
Without complaining to the ‘pity me’ bluster.
******
On the days she struggles, I let her rest,
Stipulating over and over that she’ll be okay,
She just gazes at me with hope,
Listening to all the words I say.
******
So this one’s for her,
For that brave and courageous girl I have inside me,
The one that never gives up, holds on tight,
And trusts that I’ll set us both free.
******
She knows I’ll turn up for her every time,
I’ll listen and empathise with her broken bits,
I’ll stand guard when she’s low and feeling blue,
And it’ll be me that stands and takes the hits.
******
She’s safe now, though it’s been a long hard battle,
She’s no longer alone as I stand by her side,
She now peaks from behind the veil, smiling a little,
Knowing she no longer has a need to hide.
******
This one’s for her,
She’s been brave and strong for so long,
But now there’s two to fight this battle we call life,
And we’ve both come home, where we belong.
About the Creator

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
