She calls me every day. If I don’t answer right away or pick up after the first ring well, have you ever been cussed out by a Jamaican? We answer our FaceTime in silence. We don’t pretend that our affection for each other isn’t awkward and cringe. We understand each other on a soul level. So, we make weird faces in place of any greetings.

She calls me every day. Forces me to face myself even when my mood refuses to be swayed. We laugh at all our similarities and learn from all our differences. She offers freely and effortlessly the type of unconditional love I’ve been too afraid to ask of anyone. Our communication throughout the day is a continuous hug to my inner child. Her love is real, filled with passion, strength and it’s truly genuine.

She calls me every day. Our connection, it transcends time and space. We talk about everything and nothing and share stories of a past where we were separated. We now grow up together, making up for the years we missed out on time. The love I feel for her roars through my blood, closes my throat and pricks at my eyes. I am my sister’s keeper, and she is mine.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I want her to call me every day.
