Things That Might Impress a Superior Being
On Space and Time
Have you seen the night sky? Our night sky?
Point-speckled with pinhole twinkles,
An inky velveteen from which you fly.
Or flew.
Now you've arrived, would you return?
We feel like family, so we'd like to know
If the paint-splattered fabric of infinity calls you
When are you likely to go?
Return?
You can stay as long as you like, of course!
Our night sky is more precious than even our day.
It bookends and divides eternity,
How long do you think you'll stay?
You are welcome in our space
Our place is your place
You are welcome, though I'm sure we seem unrefined
Maybe gauche, provincial or behind the times?
Silly us, with our rockets, our wars, our incapable minds
We were going to tidy up the rivers, the seas,
The poverty, the hubris, the whole humankind.

I took my son and niece to Gori, a small town in Georgia where Joseph Stalin was born. They talked me into visiting the Stalin's Museum, the largest in the post-Soviet space. I had resisted going there because I just can't stand the monster and know enough about him, or so I thought.
