They Said I Was Distracted

Why didn’t the sea witch help me?

They said I was distracted

And pried my head apart.

They tried to give me potions

But mum said no from the start.

.

They decided there was nothing

Else they could do for me

And threw me back into

The raging, deep sea.

.

The waters churned and twisted

As I fought for my life.

But it was still my sister

Who drew blood from the knife.

.

They pull us from the waters

To check on how we are.

But when we start to tell them,

Their attention drifts afar.

.

They say that I won’t make it

But she has to hold it out.

The tears leak from me

Like a faulty spout.

.

They contribute to the ocean

And the rocky waters grow

And then I learn the meaning of

“You reap what you sow.”
