They Have A Head Start On Knowing Your Soul
~^~

The blur-lane,
against the grain,
you weren’t designed to fit in
but now you’re racing
toward a head on collision,
sure about this decision?
There are other ways to handle
your quirks and idiosyncrasies.
Graffiti them on the train sides,
instead of taking the train on.
Yell them aloud, at the metal walls,
feeling the reverberating echoes jilting.
Soon, someone silently steps by, beside the shadows of the night,
who hears and understands you.
That person is your home.
They’ve known you forever,
even though they stand in silky silence.
They have a head start on knowing your soul,
because they weren’t designed to fit in either.

That title is pure magic. Feels like it could be a book, a song, or the whispered wisdom of a lifelong friend.😊
A lot to unpack here! Well-wrought! It makes me think of the Howard Zinn concept that we can't afford to be neutral on a moving train (as referenced also in the System of a Down song "Deer Dance"). When we discover that the factions fighting over who gets to own the rail are equally evil, that it's all a facade, which side do we take? We cannot, as you intimate here, take on the train itself. Yet there is a third thing, an ever-present conscientious objection that may sometimes wear either side like a handpuppet, and sometimes stand completely apart to reveal the absurdity of it all: the artist. In any event, great work! I have subscribed!
Great poem and cool concept. I love how it built up to a natural conclusion. Beautifully written!
