They

a poem about misgendering

By Mason PinesPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

you never knew me

as a woman

never knew

the long cascading locks

flowing past my shoulders

never knew the make up

neatly applied to blend in

never knew the dresses

worn on several occasions

(though I would have rather not)

you know me

as a person

know the short hair

the backwards hats

chosen to show masculinity

know the baggy shirts

with the unwanted bound underneath

know the Docs, pins, plants

and everything in between

so why do you

still call me

“she”
