Thespians of the Sky

The sky transforms from an orange splendor

to a purple haze

that eventually, will be consumed

by the creeping darkness

Twilight feels so close now, so near

I can feel it approaching on the horizon

Reminding me of what is, what was, and what will become

It’s almost upon us, slowly taking its place on stage

As it makes it’s descent

The dark air starts to cling to my skin

The sweeping wind caresses me

And just like that, it’s gone, and I am left alone in the night

I stay still in the darkness

I let it wrap itself around me

I wait, I linger, and tarry even longer

All for that first and brightest light to appear

Without fail, she makes her zenith appearance,

Alone, she flows in with all her poise and charm

Her entrance, is the leading the others follow as they illuminate the sky

One by one, they penetrate through the void to adorn our hours of darkness

Time elapses, and she becomes, a nuance in the realm of the galaxy

I close my eyes and fall into the darkness of their domain

My companions become the heavenly bodies, The players of the sky

Who choose to live out their dying days by lighting up

The far reaches of their territories, and going beyond even their own borders

And with their last breath, they go out

In what spartan critics would call a “luminous stellar explosion.”

Only leaving the particles, of memories, of what once was

I continue to gaze upon them,

And they continue to shine upon me

Gracing the cosmos with their lives

Until the Morning comes, to take the stage

I am left with nothing but daybreak

And the unending-promise of their coming performance each night

When their beauty will eclipse the night sky once again.
