These 9 Minutes

Ode to the Snooze Button

By Markus ShieldsPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Kisses coined by Eskimos and butterflies

Lips too sleepy to fully pucker settle for a still caress

Arms wrapped and warming become scarves of dawn

Chests expand then graze

Compress then long for the preceding touch

A proper snuggle removes distance unwanted

Now we’re close…

Faces smoosh and perfectly nestle to discover comfort most exquisite

Forearms and hands trapped beneath the cuddle are put to the test

How long can the tingles of numbness be withstood?

Waists and hips motionless yet flush like nights sweaty and grueling

Tangled legs, the roots of blooming love

Toes peaking from the duvet test the temperature of the day

They slowly awaken and play

While preparing to carry us away

The soft tickle and tease

The rise and fall and stretch

The rub

The cracks

The soft strokes to one another all the same

For this, this is more than mere footsies

It is the reason for the creation of the button labeled “Snooze”
