There Is A Bright Light

Far off in the distance

I’m open to the possibilities of my potential,

A future with a heart opened wide,

Take a chance, risk the outcome,

Begin to live, now I’m no longer willing to hide.

***

My boundaries have been set,

My world turned upside down,

A hard year I’ll admit,

And my smile has become my biggest frown.

***

I’ve been holding on tight by my fingernails,

Wishing for the beginning of a new year,

Attempting to keep my sanity intact,

And working through my biggest fear.

***

My heart has been broken,

Torn from my chest and thrown to the wind,

I’ve wandered the land of the lost for months,

Begging for the pain and tears to rescind.

***

I’ve made some tough decisions,

Battled with the temporary loss of inner strength,

And I’m beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel,

Working towards my next chapter, finding solutions at length.

***

There’s going to be some heartbreaking goodbyes,

The end of a family and the closing of an age,

Old lovers disconnected, acquaintances disappearing,

Until the universe has positioned me on the right page.

***

It’ll get messy as the chapters begin to close,

I’ll fall in a heap of emotion and heart scarring tears,

But the end of a revelation is upon the horizon,

And I’ll not fight the path in which the universe now steers.

***

So listen deeply to my silence,

As I traverse the landscape on my own,

I’m confident I’ll beat back the doldrums,

And become a success within this new milestone.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

A new day will dawn for you. I'm so happy that you're able to see it, even if only as yet in the distance.
