Death and pain are inevitable

Tragedy is inevitable

Grace is when God allows us

To slip away quietly

Without pain

<

We torture ourselves

With guilt and memories

Sometimes endlessly

At least, those who care do

So we don’t make the same mistakes again

<

Mercy is when

We forgive ourselves

Because if we’ve learned

And we repent

God has already forgiven us

I admire how you address universal themes of guilt, repentance, and mercy without confining them to a single faith tradition. It gives the poem both spiritual depth and inclusivity.
