The Winding Road To Nowhere

Katharyn R. King

Not a single dream falls from the sky,

As I take the path less traveled by.

I grieve for me as I plow ahead,

Nothing to fear, no future to dread.

One by one, the years go by,

As repenting tears slip from my eyes.

In my mind, I am not here.

Instead my suicide comes creeping near.

Dreams lay shattered, torn and broken,

Precious words are hardly spoken.

Day by day, all hopes float past,

Memories fade as lovers clash.

Streaking winds cross my path,

Water evolves in a mournful bath.

Bluebirds sing of love and of dreams,

But they are not as happy as they seem.

"Time to go", I say with tears,

Weeping for me, you stand right here.

"The time is now for a silhouette to fall."

Not a scream, not a sound heard from down the hall.

I grieve for me, the pain's so great,

Yet you linger beside me at any rate.

"Time to go, so take my hand

And promise that you understand".

One by one, the years pass by,

This path I travel,

With a crimson sky.

Future no more, not even a dream,

Because all was lost,

Or so it seemed...
