There’s so much turmoil in the world of man,

but as I sit outside in silence I hear

birds tweet with a lot to say

while others quarrel and fly away.

I see a gopher gather the ground up high

while bees are buzzing and zooming by,

with clouds creeping and blowing astray

as trees silently slumber in the sunrays.

I smell the dust in the wind

and feel the warmth on my skin

until the sun departs to rest

and, in the morning, will be back again.

They’re all so oblivious to human drama,

but as I sit outside with all of them

I am more at home than I ever am

in the wild world of man.
