The Wake-Up Call

I Had only Dreamed

By Margaret BrennanPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Has this ever happened to you?

THE WAKE-UP CALL

As he kissed my lips, I trembled.

His strong arms held me tight.

He kept telling me he loved me

All throughout the night.

*

He was a handsome fellow,

But I didn’t know his name.

That didn’t matter much to me,

As I felt just the same.

*

I felt so very comfortable;

My ears began to ring.

He definitely was my true love;

I heard bells and angels sing.

*

Then I felt a violent movement

As the bed began to shake.

I thought the love he gave me

Made the earth begin to quake.

*

Then I heard a voice call out

Sounding so abrupt.

“When will we have breakfast, mom?

Mommy, please wake up!”

*

“Oh darn” I almost said aloud;

He wasn’t what he seemed.

To my dismay, I realized,

I had only dreamed.
