The Venom

I found this guy along the Sandia Cave Grotto Trail, Albuquerque, NM

Teeth sinking in

Slicing through skin, penetrating

Venom pumped

I can see the snakes eyes, narrow and thin

This bite runs hot, feeling it slowly

Burning

Burning

... burning

Losing feeling in my toes, my legs

No arms, no hands

slowly reaching my heart

However, it goes around it

Instead it seeps in my throat and brain

Not touching my heart..

Confused, I look and weakly say

"Snake, why not finish me?"

Letting go, it responds

"This venom of mine, can't reach your heart.

A child inside weeps and cries for you.

You ask, why not finish you?

When you can't hear, nor see nor feel your heart."

Tears running down, burning my skin

Filled with the venom

Weeping in sorrow
