The Veil of Pain

The crippling reality of mental illness...

By Glen McKenziePublished 6 years ago 1 min read

despair enveloped each waking moment

from early morning til late at night

a shroud of grey wrapped tightly

around like bandages that

never heal the wounds of darkness

bleakness is present whispering a

heaviness and darkness

the darkest night void of life

a black hole of numbness

debilitating more so than ever

like a disease that has no cure

its cure is unconsciousness

that sleep provides

awakening the curtain falls

lower and lower

a tapestry of pain and misery

silently it descends obscuring hope

ever casting out belief

ever inserting pain and sorrow

despair enveloped each waking moment

tightly binding, squeezing, choking

til darkness prevailed

releasing the soul

surreal poetry
